Our Story

Our story is a rather incredible one. It’s a story of vision, determination, and groundbreaking innovation.  It all began with our Founder, Reynolds Marion.

At just twelve years old, Reynolds became obsessed with the idea of a small dry cabin submarine that could launch and move as freely as a speedboat. He believed that such a vessel would be revolutionary, but he also wondered: Why had no one ever built one before?  So, he began to learn about submarines and began to study the challenges that prevented their creation.

Over the next 20 years, armed only with a high school diploma and no formal engineering education, Reynolds began to build and refine the vessel over and over again in his mind until he had finally resolved the design and manufacturing challenges that had previously made such a craft impossible, insisting that every solution be practical and straight forward.

One day, with the answers finally in hand, he turned to his wife, Mary Fillyaw Marion—the woman who would become the Cofounder of FBS—and asked, "I wonder if there's any way we could actually pull this off and show the world not only that it will work, but how important it could be?"

Her response was unwavering:
"Reynolds. We’ve been broke before and we can be broke again but I think you were given this vision and put on this earth to do this, and I will do everything in my power to help you make it happen."

With that, Reynolds and Mary made a life-changing decision. They closed their small business and began the process of making the FBS a reality. Mary tirelessly sought investors while Reynolds assembled a small but dedicated team to build a prototype.

Throughout the journey, they faced relentless criticism, skepticism, and endured many mind numbing challenges and often wondered how they would pay their next round of bills, but with the support of (what would become) over 300 investors—the first full-scale vessel was finally completed. Over the course of 30+ successful dives, Reynolds, his wife, and their team proved that the impossible was possible. The vessel didn’t just work—it worked exceptionally well, just as Reynolds had always envisioned.

It was an extraordinary accomplishment by a small, determined, and unlikely group of people, and it is a story that continues to amaze and inspire to this very day.

Since that groundbreaking success, our Team has carefully and methodically assembled the people, manufacturers, and other company components needed to create a truly great company and  FBS Global is the result of those efforts—a company that is being built on vision, persistence, and the unwavering belief that the FBS is not just an innovation, but a product that will eventually be viewed as a subsea necessity.
